Universal Music Group (UMG)

Biggest music company in the world

·      Founded in September 1934, 14 years after universal studios was founded 

·      As of 2018, their revenue is $7.1 billion

·      80% of the company is owned Vivendi (a French media company) and 20% is owned by Tencent-Led Consortium

·      One of the ‘big three’ record labels, along with Sony music and Warner music group

     They recored, publish, film and merchandise for music and music videos in over 60 countrys 

·      Some artists who have signed to UMG include Kanye West, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna     

     UMG have headquarters in the Netherlands and California

·      They own many popular labels and brands such as Def Jam recordings, Aftermath (founded by Dr Dre) and XO (founded by Lil Wayne)
